Tips for Accessorizing

No outfit is complete without the right accessories. In my fashion journey, I have tried many tips and tricks that I’ve seen online or learned from others. Most times, the accessories are more important than the outfit. They add personality to your outfit when it might be lacking some expression. These are some that I use to this day and help me elevate some of the most basic outfits.

  1. Earrings and Necklaces

It is important to consider the neckline of your shirt or dress when choosing what earrings and necklace to wear. With higher necklines, pick bigger earrings because you will most likely not wear a necklace, and if you do you should wear a small one. With lower necklines, either one long necklace or multiple that vary in size are good, especially when the neckline is bland.

  2. Sunglasses

I have recently discovered how much sunglasses can elevate your look. Even though you might not think about it in the winter months, sunglasses can add so much to your outfit. Having 2 or 3 pairs that you rotate so they match with a variety of outfits is what I recommend. For example, I have a black pair, a brown pair, and a fun pair, which are white and black spotted. You can almost think of them as a glorified headband.

  3. Nails

Even though nails aren’t technically an accessory, they are just as important as everything else. Having your nails done adds some elegance to your overall look. For big events, especially, my nails are always done because they are part of my outfit. It’s also just fun to try out new colors and patterns, and you only have to go once or twice a month if you like to keep them done like I do.

  4. Belts

These have also been a recent discovery and have been the most important part of my outfit when I wear pants. I have always struggled to find pants that fit both my hips and my waist. You can use a belt instead of searching high and low for the perfect pair of jeans, which I am guilty of. Not only can they help with the fit of your pants, but they are a great addition to your look. One thing I love is that if you have the same metal as your jewelry on your belt, it gives your outfit a more cohesive look.

I could probably go on for hours about the things I’ve learned, but I’m going to leave you with these for now. If you want to elevate your style but don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on clothing, accessories are the way to go. You can go to your local T.J.Maxx or Marshalls and find cheap accessories that will upgrade your wardrobe and have you feeling confident.
